For every action, there is a reaction.
So, recently something happened in science that got me mad. Like, to the point of crying, mad. Let me share...
After the ITBS on Wednesday, (We had the ITBS every day this week, except Friday, but this happened on Wednesday) my science teacher gave us our tests back from last week (NO NOT THE ITBS it was a science test) she told us we lack in test taking skills and that we would go over the text for a better grade. We were on question 3 when Kim, this girl who sits next to me, was sword fighting with my pencil. Not the whole, shout and pew-pew thing the dudes in Star Wars do, but more like, boring-hitting-your-pencil, pencil fighting, and I was sitting there. By question 6 I wasnt sword fighting like her, but lightly hitting her pencil with mine. So basicly here we are quietly tapping pencils, and then she says,
'Hold on, class. You 2 girls, bring me your tests. You think your happy with the grade you got? Well I will put that one in the grade book, instead of this one.!'
So Kim, gets up and gives her test to the teacher and sits down. Then the teacher looks at ME and says,
'Im waiting for the next one.'
Well I was like, frozen in my seat, but I got up anyway.. So I got up, march on over and hand in my test. Then, with my head held high, I went back to my seat.
I was mad. Like my face got all hot and then I was so mad. Like, my face was hot for about 20 min. so I got out my agenda and was flipping thorugh the pages, like hard. Not a whoosh sound, more like a thud thud thud sound. So, the teacher goes back over the test and I decided while I can, to write down the answers in my now-abused agenda. Then, when she got to question 9 she says,
'Now for question 9, let me explain again, since we were rudely interupted before with sword fighting.'
The bell rang and as I got up I was so mad my eyes were watering, I was livid. I was walking to the door, when the teacher told me to stay after class. I walked to the back, where she was, and stood, facing the wall, looking up. I was so mad I didnt want to cry, but I could if I wanted to. Now, by the time class got out there was Me, Kim, and 3 other kids who had their tests taken away. Kim, of course, was lauging and talking to the others like they were best friends. One kid asked me if I was OK, I said 'yes'. And he said I wouldnt get in trouble. So my teacher closes the door and said,
'I know this is review, but you still have to pay attention.Blah blah blah. You will get your test back tomorrow..' I know she said more, but my back was to her the whole time until she said we could leave.
Now, desperate to leave, I tried to walk out until she stopped me. Again.
'I know its hard with Kim there, since she always finds a way to talk to people, but I didnt mean to freak you out when I took up your paper.'
I still hard tears in my eyes, and I was desperatly trying to blink them away, when she said,
'Oh, no! I freaked you out didnt I? I didnt mean to, your an awesome student!'
I nodded. Then,
'Do you need me to move Kim?'
Now, I was so concentrated on finding a way to get the tears out I said,
'No, Kim is fine. You dont need to move her.'
She nodded and dismissed me.
* Note to parents: If your child tells you about school take their side. If your child has a problem at school with a teacher, DO NOT take their side. You will get your childs trust and willing-ness to talk to you more, if you take their side.
The next day I went to her in Homeroom and said,
'I thought about what you said and I think that you should move Kim.'
She said,
'I was planning on moving her, I dont know where, though. Wherever she sits she talks. This room doesnt seem big enough for her. But its big enough for you. ' She smiled.
I nodded, smiled and said thank you. Then I left.
Now here is the fishy part...
After that day she has been super nice to me, example:
1. Saying how I was 'too cute' yesterday for photos.
2. Smiling at me in class
3. And just in general being super-nice.
I will just go with the flow and be nice in return.
So, in scientific terms-
Action: Taking up my test and calling me up in front of the class
Reaction: Being super nice.
Enjoy school,
Aislinn
